Introduction
The EBT food stamp schedule for 2018 has not been released yet by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The USDA typically releases the updated schedule in late December or early January.
The EBT food stamp schedule for 2017 was released on December 28, 2016. The updated schedule is usually available on the USDA’s website.
What is the EBT food stamp schedule?
The food stamp program, now called the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), is a federally funded program that provides low-income families with food benefits. The SNAP schedule for EBT, or Electronic Benefits Transfer, is used to distribute these food benefits to eligible households.
The SNAP schedule for EBT is set by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and is updated every year. The current schedule for 2018 was released in December of 2017 and can be found on the USDA website.
The main change for the SNAP schedule in 2018 is that benefits will now be distributed on the first, third, and fifth Wednesday of each month instead of the first, second, and third Wednesday. This change was made in order to better align the distribution of food benefits with the pay cycle for many low-income families.
If you have any questions about the SNAP schedule for EBT, or about the SNAP program in general, you can contact your state’s SNAP office or the USDA SNAP hotline at 1-800-221-5689.
Who is eligible for EBT food stamps?
To be eligible for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as food stamps), households must meet certain criteria related to gross and net income, resources, and size.
Income limits for SNAP are based on the Federal Poverty Level (FPL), which is updated each year. In order to be eligible for SNAP, a household’s gross monthly income (income before taxes are deducted) must be at or below 130% of the FPL for that year. For example, in order to qualify for SNAP benefits in 2018, a household of one person (the head of household) must have a gross monthly income of $1,287 or less.
A household’s net monthly income (gross income minus allowable deductions) must also be at or below 100% of the FPL; in other words, after taxes and other deductions have been taken out, the household should have $987 or less left over each month in order to qualify forsnap benefits.
Other criteria that households must meet in order to be eligible for SNAP include: having resources below a certain level (most households may only have $2,250 in countable resources such as cash or savings; some households that include a disabled person or elderly person may have up to $3,500 in countable resources); and being a U.S. citizen or legal noncitizen with proper documentation.
How are EBT food stamps used?
EBT food stamps are generally updated on the first of every month. However, there are a few exceptions. If the first of the month falls on a holiday or weekend, then the EBT food stamp schedule will be updated on the last business day prior to the first of the month. For example, if the first of the month falls on a Sunday, then EBT food stamps will be updated on Friday, since Saturday is typically not a business day.
What are the benefits of EBT food stamps?
The food stamp program is a federally-funded program that provides Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to eligible low-income households. Households that are eligible for SNAP benefits can use their EBT card to purchase food at participating retailers.
The EBT food stamp schedule is updated annually, and the 2018 schedule has not yet been released. However, based on previous years’ schedules, it is likely that the schedule will be released in late 2017 or early 2018.
What are the requirements for EBT food stamps?
The requirements for the EBT food stamp schedule differ from state to state, but in general, participants must be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents, have a low income, and not be receiving assistance from another government program. In order to receive benefits, households must also meet certain work requirements.
How to apply for EBT food stamps
EBT, which stands for Electronic Benefit Transfer, is a system that electronically delivers food stamp benefits to eligible recipients. You can use your EBT card, which is also called a Food Stamp card, at stores that accept EBT. To get an EBT card, you must first apply for food stamps through your state’s program. If you are approved, you will be issued an EBT card and assigned a Personal Identification Number (PIN). You will use your PIN to access your food stamp benefits at the store.
What is the process for EBT food stamps?
EBT, or electronic benefit transfer, is the term used for the process by which food benefits are transferred to eligible households via a plastic card that functions somewhat like a debit card. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service (FNS), as of 2016, “nearly 80 percent of all food stamp benefits were received via EBT.”
In order to receive EBT food stamp benefits, applicants must first meet certain eligibility requirements set forth by the United States government. Once these requirements are met, applicants must then undergo an interview process in order to determine their eligibility for food assistance.
If an applicant is found to be eligible for EBT food stamp benefits, they will be issued a plastic card (known as an “EBT card”) which can be used to purchase eligible food items at authorized retailers. It is important to note that not all retailers are authorized to accept EBT cards – only those that have been specifically designated by the FNS as “participating stores” can do so.
The amount of benefits an individual household receives each month via EBT food stamps is based on several factors, including (but not limited to) household size, income, and expenses. The FNS provides a helpful tool on their website known as the “household income calculator” which can give potential applicants an idea of how much they may be eligible to receive in EBT benefits.
It should also be noted that the EBT food stamp schedule is subject to change each year – the 2018 schedule has not yet been announced, but will likely be released sometime in late 2017 or early 2018.
What are the food stamp options?
There are several options for food stamp recipients in 2018. The most common option is to receive benefits on a electronic benefits transfer (EBT) card, which can be used like a debit card at certain stores. Other options include receiving benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC).
